A silver gelatin photo (or gelatin silver print) is the standard black-and-white photographic process. It consists of paper coated with light-sensitive silver halide crystals suspended in a gelatin emulsion. When exposed to a negative and developed, microscopic particles of silver form an image characterized by rich blacks, bright whites, and fine detail.Developed in the 1870s, this method became the dominant medium for analog black-and-white photography throughout the 20th century.
